Game Developer
As a game developer, you investigate, design and build games and gamified experiences. You combine programming, game engine knowledge and game design to create experiences that work technically and meet player and stakeholder needs.
Learning outcomes
- Personal Leadership: steer your learning, reflect, use feedback and share knowledge.
- Analysing & Advising: investigate questions and give evidence-based advice.
- Designing & Realising: design, implement and validate a playable solution.
- Managing & Collaborating: monitor progress, collaborate and make your work transferable.
Foundation and Intermediate use the level 2 learning outcomes; Advanced uses level 3. Each section includes both levels and their success criteria, alongside articles that help you apply them in a game project. Choose methods and evidence that suit your project: the articles are starting points, not a list of mandatory deliverables.
Knowledge and self-study
The Game Developer Knowledge page is under construction. Information about the knowledge test and self-study topics will be added later.
Using this profile
An article has one main location, but can support multiple learning outcomes. For example, a playtest can inform advice and validate a design; a Game Design Document records design decisions and helps the team coordinate. Explain what your evidence demonstrates in the context of the relevant success criteria.
General methods such as reflection and responsible use of AI have their own articles in this profile, with examples from game development. Follow the links in each learning outcome to apply them to your game project.
