Designing & Realizing

As a Digital Business Engineer you design IT-related solutions aimed at existing or new business, in alignment with stakeholders and using relevant standards and methods. Your design accounts for the (ethical) implications for stakeholders, with attention to privacy, safety, sustainability, and inclusion. You then realise and/or integrate the solution, in line with industry norms and best practices, and you test and validate it with stakeholders based on acceptance criteria.

Starting Points

Level 2 Learning Outcome Designing & Realizing

You design and realise solutions in consultation with stakeholders, work according to provided methods, and validate that it works as intended. Success criteria:

  • You work from a concrete plan or design, in which you can explain what you are going to make, why you choose this, and which steps are involved.
  • You orient yourself on what already exists in the field and apply relevant standards and methods.
  • You actively involve stakeholders by showing your work in time and processing feedback.
  • You validate the solution before delivering it, demonstrating that it works as intended, is free of known errors, and is ready for use.
  • You take into account the interests of end users, such as privacy, safety, or accessibility.

Level 3 Learning Outcome Designing & Realizing

You design and realise solutions in consultation with stakeholders, work according to professional standards, and systematically validate whether the solution works and meets the needs. Success criteria:

  • You design and realise in a planned manner, justify choices in relation to alternatives, and adjust based on new insights.
  • You independently select relevant standards and methods from the field and justify why they fit the context.
  • You proactively involve multiple stakeholders with diverging interests, align systematically, and consciously weigh their feedback in your choices.
  • You systematically validate whether the solution does what it is supposed to do, critically evaluate quality, and draw conclusions for improvement.
  • In your design and realisation you consciously take into account the broader impact on end users and society, forming your own ethical judgement.
